鉄瓶を構成する要素は、南部鉄器の生産手法と紐づいているため、新たなデザインを創造する時は、その歴史や文化的重要性についても思いを馳せる必要がある。全体的なフォルムを印象づける特徴が、造られた環境に深く関係しているからだ。現代的な空間に調和する新たなケトルの創作では、機能性を重視するとともに、南部鉄瓶が持つ普遍性にも光を当てた。このケトルは、蓋、注ぎ口、鉉、本体のすべての一体感を大切にし、スケールとボリュームにも吟味を重ねている。そして外観は、どこか心地よく、時の流れを感じるはずだ。（解説／デザイナー ヴィッレ・コッコネン）2019年5月発売 ¥38,400（税抜き）

伝統のものづくり技術にグローバルな風を吹き込む意欲的なプロジェクトのもと、岩手の職人とフィンランド人デザイナーとのコラボレーションから生まれた製品。ヴィッレ・コッコネンによってデザインされた鉄瓶は、「ゆず肌」による表面仕上げなど南部鉄器の伝統技術を継承しつつ、北欧のデザインテイストが加わった完成度の高い洗練されたデザインである。（選定委員／武正 秀治）

The production methodologies of Nambu Tekki ironware are inseparable from the formal definition of the elements composing the typology of a kettle. When developing a new identity and character of such item, one needs to contemplate its heritage and cultural significance, because the symbolic features of the overall form are deeply related to its surrounding environment. New dialogues are developed within contemporary spaces and settings, which shine light onto the timelessness of its functional and aesthetic characteristics. The kettle presents a studied sense of scale and volume, bringing together the lid, spout, handle and main body through careful composition. This is a product born from a collaboration between artisans from Iwate and designers from Finland under an ambitious project that aims to infuse global influence into traditional manufacturing technology. The iron kettle designed by Ville Kokkonen boasts a highly refined design with a high degree of perfection that adds a taste of Nordic design and at the same time inherits the traditional techniques of Nambu Tekki, such as the yuzu skin finish on its surface.
