YKKとJUKIはテープのないファスナー AiryString®と、直接生地へ縫製出来る専用ミシンを共同で開発しました。テープを無くしたことで、衣服をより軽く、柔らかい風合いに仕上げることができ、ファスナーの開け閉め動作の操作性も向上できます。専用ミシンは、電子千鳥縫いミシンをベースに布地とファスナーを沿わせ、ジグザグ縫いで縫製します。エレメントを布地と同期させて確実に送る新機構のほか、各種部品にも専用の改良を加えました。さらに、縫いを制御するパネルで、生地の種類に応じた適切な送り量や縫いピッチを設定でき、縫製オペレーターをサポートします。（解説／YKK株式会社 フィールドテクノロジー戦略室）2019年7月発売 オープン価格

AiryString®はJUKI株式会社とYKK株式会社のコラボレーションによって生まれた「生地素材に直接ファスナーを縫い付ける技術」である。これまでファスナーテープの存在は「あって当たり前」の認識である一方、テープの存在がデザイン上の制約条件となり頭を悩ませる場面も多々あったのではないかと思う。AiryString®はその「当たり前と思っていた前提」を覆す革新的なデザインである。（選定委員／蘆澤 雄亮）

YKK and JUKI have jointly developed a tapeless zipper, AiryString®, and a dedicated sewing machine specialized for directly sewing the zipper onto fabric. Eliminating the tape enables lighter and softer clothing, and provides better operability for opening and closing the zipper. Using the electronic zig-zag sewing machine as a basis, the dedicated sewing machine makes zig-zag stitches on the fabric that is aligned with a zipper. In addition to a new mechanism that reliably feeds fabric by synchronizing it with element, various parts were specifically improved. Furthermore, the sewing control panel allows users to set the proper feed and sewing pitch depending on the type of fabric, supporting sewing operators. AiryString® is "a technology for sewing zippers directly onto fabric material", created by collaboration between JUKI Corporation and YKK Corporation. Conventionally, despite the general acceptance of zipper tape as a most natural existence, the presence of the tape itself was most likely a design constraint, causing many headaches.
